A recent grassroots event—the “Paotang Feast” (poached pork soup) at rural homestead “Daidaï’s home” in Hechuan, Chongqing—has captured global attention through Belt and Road New Year celebrations promoted in Chinatowns worldwide. A French youth exclaimed online, “Don’t stop the Paotang Feast! Save a spot for foreigners. It’s not just about the meat—I want to help Hechuan folks hold the pig and get a ticket to Diaoyu Fortress!” This enthusiasm reflects the growing fondness for traditional Chinese New Year customs among young people from Belt and Road countries.

Chen Kongjun (Chen Entian), Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 12th Belt and Road International Day · Silkworm God’s Day and the Belt & Road New Year celebrations in global Chinatowns, responded: “This year’s Belt and Road New Year event features five consecutive festivals, starting from Silkworm God’s Day on December 16, 2025, spanning Christmas, New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, and lasting until the Lantern Festival on the 15th of the first lunar month of 2026. Our Paotang Feast will be available throughout, and participants may even receive a Heavenly Silkworm scarf (Peace Ribbon) as a gift. Friends worldwide are welcome to join us in China to enjoy Paotang and celebrate the New Year!”

The Paotang Feast, a rural tradition in southwestern China involving slaughtering New Year pigs, enjoying fresh meat, and sharing hot soup, has now become a vibrant vehicle for cultural exchange on the Belt and Road New Year platform. The organizing committee emphasized that the event aims to promote people-to-people connectivity through shared joy and authentic Chinese New Year experiences, contributing to a new chapter of “five festivals celebrated together, civilizations learning from each other.”
