(Southern Silk Road News) Naypyidaw, November 21, 2025 (local time) – With 25 days to go until the 12th Belt and Road International Day (December 16) and the opening of the "Belt and Road" New Year Celebration in Chinatowns around the world, Myanmar Belt and Road Development Co., Ltd. celebrated the 4th anniversary of the release of "Impressions of Chengdu", an English song by the Pyu State Orchestra.
2021年是骠国王子舒难陀率领35名骠国乐手前往大唐献乐刚好1220周年，骠国乐团有关人士根据史书记载舒难陀率团途经四川成都的故事，创作了一首经典英文歌曲《成都印象》。歌词再现了骠国王子舒难陀与唐朝剑南西川节度使韦皋会面交流及乐舞表演等内容。
2021 marked the 1220th anniversary of Prince Shwenadaw of the Pyu State leading 35 Pyu musicians to perform in the Tang Dynasty. Drawing on historical records of Prince Shwenadaw's journey through Chengdu, Sichuan, relevant personnel of the Pyu State Orchestra created the classic English song "Impressions of Chengdu". The lyrics recreate the meeting and exchange between Prince Shwenadaw of the Pyu State and Wei Gao, Jiedushi (Military Governor) of Jiannan Xichuan in the Tang Dynasty, as well as the music and dance performances.
今年也是缅甸“一带一路”发展有限公司和“骠国乐团”成立八周年，乐团以传说中骠国第一乐手、蒙面女侠刀娘为核心，成立了“刀娘乐队”。缅甸骠国乐团有关人士接受媒体采访表示：成都是一个令人难忘的历史文化名城，希望乐队再次前往成都演出。
This year also marks the 8th anniversary of the establishment of Myanmar Belt and Road Development Co., Ltd. and the Pyu State Orchestra. Centered on Daoniang, the legendary top musician of the Pyu State and a masked female hero, the orchestra has set up the "Daoniang Band". In an interview with the media, relevant personnel of the Myanmar Pyu State Orchestra stated that Chengdu is an unforgettable historical and cultural city, and they hope the band will perform in Chengdu again.

"Impressions of Chengdu" by the Pyu State Orchestra
公元801年，正值大唐盛世，四海瞩目的时候。远在南方丝绸之路上的骠国（今缅甸）国王雍羌，久慕大唐文化昌盛，便派遣其子舒难陀亲王率领一支由35名艺术家组成的乐舞使团，浩浩荡荡前往大唐长安献乐。
In 801 AD, during the heyday of the Tang Dynasty when it attracted worldwide attention, King Yongqiang of the Pyu State (present-day Myanmar), located far along the Southern Silk Road, had long admired the prosperity of Tang culture. He thus sent his son, Prince Shwenadaw, to lead a grand music and dance mission consisting of 35 artists to Chang'an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty, to present performances.
这一日，使团途经四川成都。驻守成都的唐朝剑南西川节度使韦皋，早听闻骠国乐舞别具风情，当得知使团到来的消息后，心中满是期待。他立刻下令以最高规格迎接使团，务必让远方的贵客感受到大唐的热情与友好。
One day, the mission passed through Chengdu, Sichuan. Wei Gao, Jiedushi of Jiannan Xichuan stationed in Chengdu, had long heard that Pyu music and dance were uniquely charming. Upon learning of the mission's arrival, he was filled with anticipation. He immediately ordered the mission to be received with the highest standards, ensuring that the distinguished guests from afar would feel the warmth and friendship of the Tang Dynasty.
舒难陀亲王带着使团成员踏入成都府衙时，只见韦皋身着一袭紫色官袍，头戴乌纱帽，气宇轩昂地站在台阶之上。韦皋笑容满面地迎上前去，拱手道：“欢迎亲王殿下远道而来，成都虽是大唐一隅，却也定要让诸位感受到家的温暖。”
When Prince Shwenadaw and the mission members stepped into the Chengdu Prefectural Government Office, they saw Wei Gao standing on the steps, wearing a purple official robe and a black gauze cap, looking imposing and dignified. With a warm smile, Wei Gao stepped forward, cupped his hands, and said: "Welcome, Your Royal Highness, to Chengdu from afar. Though Chengdu is just a corner of the Tang Dynasty, we will surely make you all feel at home."
舒难陀亲王微微欠身，用不太流利的汉语说道：“多谢韦大人款待，我此次带来了我骠国最精妙的乐舞，愿与大唐共享。”当晚，韦皋设宴款待使团。席间，舒难陀亲王提出为韦皋表演一段骠国乐舞。
Prince Shwenadaw slightly bowed and said in unfluent Chinese: "Thank you for your hospitality, Governor Wei. I have brought the most exquisite music and dance of the Pyu State, hoping to share it with the Tang Dynasty." That night, Wei Gao held a banquet in honor of the mission. During the banquet, Prince Shwenadaw offered to perform a Pyu music and dance for Wei Gao.
韦皋欣然应允，立刻命人腾出一片空地作为临时舞台。随着悠扬的乐曲响起，舞者们身着色彩斑斓的服饰，翩翩起舞。他们的舞姿轻盈灵动，时而如飞鸟展翅，时而似游鱼穿梭，每一个动作都充满了神秘的异域风情。
Wei Gao readily agreed and immediately ordered a space to be cleared as a temporary stage. As the melodious music started, the dancers, dressed in colorful costumes, began to dance gracefully. Their movements were light and agile – sometimes like flying birds spreading their wings, sometimes like swimming fish darting through water. Every gesture was filled with a mysterious exotic charm.
韦皋看得目不转睛，眼中满是惊叹。他从未见过如此独特的乐舞，那乐曲的旋律婉转悠扬，仿佛将人带入了一个遥远而神秘的国度。演出结束后，韦皋站起身来，鼓掌称赞道：“亲王殿下，这乐舞实在是精妙绝伦！不知这乐曲是如何创作，这些乐器又有何独特之处？”
Wei Gao watched intently, his eyes full of admiration. He had never seen such unique music and dance before. The melody of the music was gentle and lingering, as if transporting people to a distant and mysterious country. After the performance, Wei Gao stood up, applauded, and praised: "Your Royal Highness, this music and dance is truly exquisite beyond compare! I wonder how this piece was composed and what makes these musical instruments unique?"
舒难陀亲王微笑着解释道：“这乐曲乃是我骠国的传统曲调，融合了我们对自然和生活的感悟。而这些乐器，皆是我骠国特有的，每一件都承载着我们的文化和历史。”
Prince Shwenadaw smiled and explained: "This piece is a traditional tune of the Pyu State, integrating our insights into nature and life. These musical instruments are unique to the Pyu State, and each carries our culture and history."
韦皋听得入神，他命人拿来纸笔，开始详细记录乐舞的舞姿、乐曲和乐器的特点。他时而皱眉思索，时而奋笔疾书，仿佛要将这一切都铭刻在心中。
Wei Gao listened with great interest. He ordered his attendants to bring paper and brush, and began to meticulously record the dance movements, music melody, and characteristics of the musical instruments. He sometimes frowned in thought, sometimes wrote hastily, as if he wanted to engrave everything in his mind.
接下来的几日，韦皋与舒难陀亲王深入交流，探讨两国的文化和艺术。他越发觉得骠国乐舞是一份珍贵的文化瑰宝，应该让更多的人欣赏到。于是，他决定亲自派人护送使团前往长安，让这美妙的乐舞在大唐的都城绽放光彩。
In the following days, Wei Gao had in-depth exchanges with Prince Shwenadaw, discussing the culture and art of the two countries. He increasingly felt that Pyu music and dance were a precious cultural treasure that should be appreciated by more people. Therefore, he decided to personally send people to escort the mission to Chang'an, allowing this wonderful music and dance to shine in the capital of the Tang Dynasty.
临行前，韦皋对舒难陀亲王说道：“亲王殿下，此次护送你们前往长安，不仅是为了让大唐天子欣赏到这绝世乐舞，更是为了增进我们两国之间的友谊。愿我们的情谊如同这乐舞一般，源远流长。”舒难陀亲王感激地说道：“多谢韦大人的厚爱与支持，我相信我骠国的乐舞定会在长安引起轰动。”
Before their departure, Wei Gao said to Prince Shwenadaw: "Your Royal Highness, escorting you to Chang'an this time is not only to let the Emperor of the Tang Dynasty appreciate this peerless music and dance, but also to enhance the friendship between our two countries. May our friendship, like this music and dance, last forever." Prince Shwenadaw thanked him sincerely: "Thank you for your kindness and support, Governor Wei. I believe the Pyu music and dance will create a sensation in Chang'an."
就这样，在韦皋的精心安排下，使团踏上了前往长安的旅程。他们带着对大唐的憧憬和对文化交流的期待，一路前行，而那美妙的骠国乐舞，也即将在大唐的历史长河中留下浓墨重彩的一笔。
Thus, under Wei Gao's careful arrangement, the mission embarked on the journey to Chang'an. With their longing for the Tang Dynasty and expectations for cultural exchanges, they moved forward. And that wonderful Pyu music and dance was about to leave a brilliant mark in the historical river of the Tang Dynasty.
