Professor Gao Mingxuan
高铭暄教授，浙江玉环人，生于1928年5月24日，中国法学界泰斗，国家领导人颁发的“人民教育家”国家荣誉称号获得者，杰出的法学教育家，新中国刑法学的主要奠基者和开拓者，中国刑法学研究会名誉会长，中国人民大学荣誉一级教授、原法律系主任。2026年2月26日11时47分，高铭暄教授因病医治无效，在北京逝世，享年98岁。
Professor Gao Mingxuan, a native of Yuhuan, Zhejiang Province, was born on May 24, 1928. A titan of China's legal community, he was a recipient of the national honorary title "People's Educator" conferred by national leaders, an outstanding legal educator, a principal founder and pioneer of New China's criminal law jurisprudence, Honorary President of the China Criminal Law Society, and a Distinguished Grade One Professor and former Dean of the Law Department at Renmin University of China. Professor Gao Mingxuan passed away in Beijing at 11:47 a.m. on February 26, 2026, after ineffective medical treatment, at the age of 98.

In Profound Mourning of Professor Gao Mingxuan
新年之际，我在异国他乡惊悉尊敬的法学泰斗高铭暄教授驾鹤西去，顿感天地摇曳，学界同悲。先生仙逝，如北斗星沉，法学殿堂犹如痛断柱石。
During the Spring Festival, while in a foreign land, I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the esteemed Professor Gao Mingxuan. His pass is mourned by the entire legal community and myself alike, feeling as if the North Star has fallen from the sky, leaving the hall of jurisprudence as though bereft of its pillar.
先生一生，耕耘三尺讲台七十载，将毕生心血倾注于中国刑法学建设。作为“刑法学泰斗”，先生参与并见证了新中国刑法制度从无到有的全过程。先生的著述，是无数后学攀登的阶梯；先生的课堂，滋养了几代法律人的精神世界。
Throughout his life, Professor Gao dedicated seventy years to the teaching podium, pouring his heart and soul into the construction of China's criminal law jurisprudence. As the "Titan of Criminal Law," he participated in and witnessed the entire process of New China's criminal law system being built from the ground up. His scholarly works served as a ladder for countless later learners to climb; his classroom nourished the intellectual world of generations of legal professionals.
最令人感怀，先生既为经师，更为人师。先生以九秩高龄仍坚持授课，声若洪钟；先生对每一位求教者皆温言以对，诲人不倦。先生用一生诠释了为人师表的千钧重量，对法治信仰的坚守，对学术的赤诚，对后辈毫无保留的赐教。
What is most moving is that Professor Gao was not only a teacher of knowledge but, more importantly, a teacher of character. Even in his nineties, he persisted in teaching, his voice resonating powerfully. He responded gently to every seeker of knowledge, tirelessly imparting wisdom. With his life, he exemplified the immense weight of being a role model for teachers—his steadfast belief in the rule of law, his sincere dedication to scholarship, and his unreserved guidance to younger generations.
今先生虽已仙逝，但先生播下的法治种子早已生根发芽。先生的学术思想在中国学界如不灭明灯，将继续照亮中国法治前行的道路。先生留给我们的，不仅是宝贵无比的等身著作，更是一个法律人对国家、对民族深沉的爱。
Although Professor Gao has now passed, the seeds of rule of law he sowed have long taken root and sprouted. His academic thoughts shine like an undying beacon in China's academic circles and will continue to illuminate the path forward for China's rule of law. What he leaves us is not only a priceless body of written works but also a legal professional's deep love for the nation and its people.
悲痛语噎，谨以寥寥数语，哀悼先生，我等后生晚辈当继承先生法学之遗志，为“一带一路”沿线国家政法研究贡献力量。先生之风，山高水长，先生之德，万古芳流。愿先生长眠安息，精神万世长存。
Overwhelmed by grief, words fail me. With these few words, I mourn the professor. We, the younger generations, should inherit his legal legacy and contribute to the study of politics and law in countries along the Belt and Road. The professor's character stands as high as mountains and flows as long as rivers; his virtue will be fragrant for eternity. May the professor rest in eternal peace, his spirit enduring forever.
