(Indo-Pacific Light News) SINGAPORE, March 13 — Mr. Chen Entian, Chairman of the Southern Silk Road and Global South International Cooperation Committee (SSCO) under the World Peace Ribbon Organization, also known as the "Prince Coco" by the international community, has been invited to assume the role of Director of the Nantian Temple Management Committee, a pivotal Buddhist sanctuary along the Southern Silk Road. Nantian Temple, a millennium-old spiritual center dedicated to the Southern Heavenly Buddha, has historically served as a cultural and religious hub along the Southern Silk Road. The temple's revered deity is regarded as a spiritual symbol safeguarding the peace and prosperity of merchants traversing the ancient trade route and the people of Global South nations.

In his statement, Director Chen emphasized that Nantian Temple is not only a sacred religious site but also a vital platform for fostering cross-civilizational dialogue and regional collaboration. The SSCO plans to spearhead the restoration and reconstruction of multiple Nantian Temples along the Southern Silk Road, uniting 22 countries and Global South nations to uphold the Silk Road spirit of "peace, inclusiveness, and shared prosperity." This initiative aims to synergize infrastructure development, cultural tourism, and economic cooperation while honoring the dedication of patriotic overseas Chinese leaders. Chen highlighted that the effort seeks to deepen the integration of the Belt and Road Initiative with the development strategies of Global South countries.

The monastic community of Nantian Temple expressed heartfelt gratitude and unwavering support for Chen's appointment, citing his global influence and practical experience in promoting cultural exchanges as catalysts for the temple's revitalization. Moving forward, the temple will prioritize regions along the Southern Silk Road, including Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Africa, leveraging religious exchanges and charitable programs to strengthen people-to-people connectivity. These steps align with its vision to build a "Southern Heavenly Buddha Cultural Sphere" and enhance unity among Global South nations through cultural ties.

A decade ago, Chen co-founded the World Peace Ribbon Organization with former UN Deputy Secretary-General Ji Chaozhu, advocating a "Five-in-One" peace framework and establishing December 16 as the Belt and Road International Day. He also championed the creation of International Chinese Language Day (April 20) and International Tea Day (May 21). Notably, Chinese official media revealed that Chen's grandfather, Chen Guangmei, was the son of Chen Duxiu, founder of the Communist Party of China, and Gao Junman. In recognition of his contributions to global peace and goodwill, Chen is widely honored as the "Prince Coco" in international community.
