Proposed by the New York Secretariat of the World Peace Ribbon Organization, the inaugural “Listen to Tianshan Silently” World Buddhist Music Conference will take place in Mandalay, Myanmar, from December 15 to 16, 2026. As a major cultural supporting event of the 13th International Day of the Belt and Road (Silk Road Festival), the conference aims to promote cross-civilization exchanges and peaceful people-to-people communication along the ancient Southern Silk Road.
The event is guided by the World Peace Ribbon Organization, hosted by the Myanmar Arts and Culture Development Association, and co-organized by the Silk Road News Agency and the Silk Road International Guild Alliance.
As an ancient capital of Myanmar and a core center of Theravada Buddhist culture, Mandalay is a vital node city on the Southern Silk Road with profound historical and artistic heritage, making it an ideal venue for international Buddhist music cultural exchanges.
With the theme of “Purify the Heart with Tianshan, Moisten the Silk Road with Buddhist Melodies”, the conference focuses on artistic display, cultural inheritance and peaceful dialogue, enriching the cultural system of the Five Festivals Celebration during the annual Silk Road New Year season.
The conference consists of three major sessions:
First, the Tianshan Night Lantern Blessing Ceremony will be held from 18:00 to 20:00 on December 15. Amid soft and sacred Buddhist chants, guests and cultural envoys will light lanterns to pray for world peace, harmony and prosperity, opening the conference with solemn and peaceful rituals.
Second, the Opening Ceremony and Academic Seminar will be held on December 16, from 10:00 to 12:00. Artists, scholars, cultural representatives and overseas community guests from countries along the Silk Road will gather to discuss the inheritance, innovation and cross-border communication value of Silk Road Buddhist music, promoting new progress in Belt and Road people-to-people cultural exchanges.
Third, the core featured activity, the Silent Mind Purification Conference, will be held from 14:00 to 16:00 on December 16. Breaking traditional rigid performance etiquette, the session creates a fully relaxed and inclusive atmosphere. Participants may sit in meditation, stand, sit casually, lie down, or even fall asleep during the music appreciation. The organizer will provide meditation cushions, chairs and soft lying mats, allowing every participant to empty their mind, release pressure and achieve inner peace through pure Buddhist melodies.
The organizing committee emphasized that the World Buddhist Music Conference is positioned as an international cultural and artistic exchange event focused on music inheritance and civilized mutual learning rather than religious preaching.
According to the long-term plan, the series will be developed in phases: the World Buddhist Music Conference focuses on artistic performance and cultural communication, while the World Dharma Voice Conference will be launched in the future for deeper spiritual and cultural inheritance.
Relying on the global influence of the International Day of the Belt and Road (Silk Road Festival), the inaugural World Buddhist Music Conference in Mandalay will further activate the cultural vitality of the Southern Silk Road, enhance mutual understanding among different civilizations, and contribute to building a harmonious, inclusive and peaceful new era of Silk Road cultural communication.
